Disposable vent filters are also referred to as gamma-stable filters. Gamma-compatible vent filters with 0.2µm hydrophobic PTFE filter medium retain microorganisms for effective air venting and gas filtration. The filters’ inherent hydrophobicity and high porosity provide ideal resistance to particles, bacteria, and water, while high air and gas pressures permit operation at very low differential pressure. Stepped hose barb connectors are extremely versatile, allowing them to connect with a variety of tube sizes. It is very lightweight and can keep tubes from bending. They can be gamma-irradiated or autoclavable and are commonly used in single-use systems and assemblies, such as bioreactors, fermenter cell flasks, and carboys.
